Spring Season Kicks-Off

Spring is in the air as ISU football is kicking off their first spring practice as I type. The athletes are charged with energy and are ready to put in the hard work necessary to start the 2010 season on point. This spring will look a little different for returning players with the additions of Phil Earley, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks, and Jon Clark, offensive line assistant coach, to the staff. Football practiced in helmets today and will do the same on Wednesday, the Bengals will be in full gear on Friday. The team will end spring practice with its spring game scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 24 in Holt Arena.

Idaho State soccer and volleyball have been working hard during their spring seasons as well. The Bengal soccer team hosted Utah Valley early in March and will be lacing up their shoes for five more competitions including an alumni game. Two-time Coach of the Year, Allison Gibson has given its post-season practice and spring season a special name, project 2010, as the Bengals push to improve on their second place finish in the Big Sky Conference Tournament last season. The schedule for the remainder of spring is as follows:

SPRING SOCCER
April 10 - BYU Tournament
vs. Weber State, 10 a.m.
at Brigham Young, 2:30 p.m.

April 17 - at Boise State
vs. Walla Walla Community College 4 p.m.

April 18- at Boise State
at Boise State, noon

April 24- at Davis Field (Pocatello, ID)
vs. Alumni, 1 p.m.

Bengal volleyball is in full spring fever too and have been hitting the court hard in preparation for its third season under Head Coach Chad Teichert. Idaho State volleyball has a spring tournament at Utah Valley on April 10 where they will play Salt Lake City Community College as well. The Bengals will also compete on April 17 at Utah State.

Any word on the other soccer recruits? I have heard that we have 15 new players coming in, but only 10 have been announced on the website. I am assuming since we have only one returning keeper, that we must have at least recruited another GK.
